Countries Taking Veganism to the Next Level – Part 1
Traveling and food go hand in hand. If you’re ever had a bad meal on vacation, you know it can ruin the entire holiday—or even make you sick. As a vegan, you no doubt wonder about whether or not your favorite holiday destination is a vegan-friendly haven. Chances are, it is! A vacation in the right country or city can open up an entire world of new plant-based experiences:
- Foods: It is always a delight to be able to try a new cuisine from a different culture, especially when it’s of the vegan variety.
- Places: Explore an entire city just by where you eat. There is so much more to food than just restaurants. Try food trucks, cafés, bars, and local street cuisines.
Without further ado, here are some of the top countries taking veganism to a whole new level.
Germany is one of the top dream destinations for vegans all over the world, and with good reason. Germany is host to the Vegan-Vegetarian Summer festival, the largest of its kind in the whole of Europe. The festival started in 2008 and has been going strong ever since. The festival offers entertainment, engaging information, and the finest in vegan food options. With over 70 stalls, there is definitely something for everyone!
Scotland was PETA’s top choice for the UK’s Most Vegan-Friendly City. It’s easy to see why. There are plenty of vegan options readily available in most restaurants and pubs, and some places even go the extra mile by making plant-based versions of national favorites, like vegan haggis! Food options like vegan cheeses are also easily available and reasonably priced.
If it were not for Canada, many of us would be without some of our must-have vegan meat and dairy alternatives, like Gardein and Daiya! Canada also takes things to the next level by having some of the best street cuisine for plant-based foodies, like vegan hotdogs. This is apart from the many food truck and restaurant options. Even sweet treats are readily available—like vegan Kit Kat chocolates. That’s right!
Those in the States are treated to some of the coolest and most available vegan options. From food and cosmetics, to clothing and even prenatal vitamins, the USA is a true leader in moving veganism forward. There are festivals, a variety of food options in markets for cheap prices, vegan companies, and meet-ups with other vegans. What’s more, most big fast food chains are getting on board and adding more plant-based dishes to their menus.
Argentina may once have been a predominantly meat-consuming country, but that has steadily been changing as more of the population turns towards vegetarian and vegan alternatives. There are many restaurants going the organic and health route, so great vegan options are becoming available. Restaurants offer a growing variety of pizzas and burgers, desserts, and other condiments.
